Part cafe, part bar, part live music venue. This is a great place for a chill afternoon studying, a casual date, or to hear some local (generally indie) music acts.
Just a short walk from Sangsu station (near the Hongdae area), 제비다방 (swallow coffee shop?) is pretty easy to find thanks to its bright red door, the wall that doubles as a calendar of upcoming shows, and the sign that switches to 취한제비 (drunken swallow) at night.
Their menu covers everything from coffee to teas and juice to cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. And although it is on the expensive side, the drinks are well made and the atmosphere is worth the price.
There are few seats around the counter upstairs, but downstairs has more seating and the stage. There’s a big hole in the middle of the floor/ceiling though, so both upstairs and downstairs can hear the music.
The walls are lined with all sorts of books and if you come here in the early afternoon, before it gets crowded or the band shows up, it’s the perfect space to study.
I usually order their homemade lemonade, which is amazing. But my friend says their lattes are good as well. I’ve never had anything off the snack menu, but I imagine it’s tasty too~
The cafe is pretty small, so keep that in mind before bringing a large group. But if you’re looking for a chill place to spend some time or want to see what the Korean indie music scene has to offer, I highly recommend 제비다방!
